WONDERFUL MINAHASA
The name Manado, which is derived from the Minahasan Language, comes from manadou or wanazou meaning "on the far coast" or "in the distance" and originally referred to the further of two islands which can be seen from the mainland.

DESTINATION
BAN HIN KIONG
the oldest temple in the city of Manado. This temple was established in 1819. This temple is very popular tourism spot in the city, especially during the Chinese new year celebration.

BUNAKEN NATIONAL PARK
Bunaken is an 8.08 km² island in the Bay of Manado. The marine Park around Bunaken is part of the National Park that also includes the ocean around the island of Manado Tua, Siladen and Mantehage. The translucent waters of the Bunaken seas enable people to clearly view numerous sea biota. There are 13 species of coral reefs in this park, dominated by edge ridges and block ridges of rocks. For some divers, Bunaken is the best diving spot ever. There is With about 20 dive spots to choose from, divers will have the chance to swim below the sea, and frolic joyfully while admiring the sea creatures. The journey to Bunaken will only take 45 minutes from Manado.

MINAHASA HIGHLAND
Those fine volcanic peaks that he talked of are part of the Minahasa Highlands, a truly magificent mountainous area inland from Manado. Apart from its volcanoes a trip through Minahasa will also take you to intriguing prehistoric above-ground burial sites, hot springs, the scenic Tondano Lake, the coloured Linow Lake and breathtaking panoramas of lush mountains, coffee and coconut plantations, orchid gardens and terraced hillsides. Add to it the fun-loving and extroverted Minahasa people who live in neat wood frame houses, with fences and flower gardens, giving Manado a European feel, and you are up for a unique adventure.

  • TOMOHON
    Tomohon is famous as the ‘city of flowers’. Flowers are a part of every journey here, and every year in August (originally every two years) the town hosts a major event called the Tomohon Flower Festival.
  • WARUGA
    Waruga are a type of sarcophagus or above ground tomb traditionally used by the Minahasans of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. They are made of stone and consist or a ridged upper part and a box shaped lower section. Minahasa dead were originally wrapped in woka, a type of leaf. Woka is the leaf of the fan palm, Livistona. Then they were put in waruga.
  • LINOW LAKE
    Lake Linow is a volcanic lake, Several hydrothermal vents spew hot gas from the edges and depths of the lake. The changing chemical composition of the lake means that it changes colors often, ranging from red, dark green, and even to dark blue.The lake is abutted on its sides by Mount Lokon and Mount Mahawu. The lake carries a fairly strong miasma of rotten eggs, due to the sulfur that is often in great quantities in the lake. The word "Linow" derives from the Minahasa word for "water gathering place".
  • TONDANO LAKE
    The largest lake in North Sulawesi, the scenic area in the plateau is well worth a visit. Located in 600 m above sea level. Fertile rice paddies lead towards the lake’s edge.
  • TANGKOKO BATUANGUS NATURE RESERVE
    This Nature Reserve is home to a great variety of flora and fauna. There are black apes, maleo birds, snakes, wild pigs, hornbill birds and rusa deer. But special interest is given to the Tarsiers which sneak out at dawn and dusk. About the size of a childs fist, these tiny creatures are among the smallest known primates and a delight to see.
    The reserve is located north of Bitung and covers an area of 3,196 hectares.
