LAMPUUK BEACH

Lampuuk Beach is the most beautiful beach in the Aceh Besar Regency. This beach is located the Meunasah Masjid Village, Lhoknga or on the Banda Aceh Calang (Aceh Jaya) road. This beach is located about 15 km from Banda Aceh.

This beach was devastated after the Tsunami disaster. The hotels around this beach and village settlement was destroyed by the wave. It took years for the reconstruction work to restore the condition of this beach, and more until this beach started gaining visitors again.

This beach has a long stretch of white sand and enchanting view. This beach is best enjoyed during sunset. Visitors on Lampuuk beach could swim, sunbathe, surf, fish, sail, dive and other activities. At the end of this beach there is a high cliff, where thrilseekers could try rock climbing.

With its bright white walls and majestic black domes, the 130-year old grand mosque is a magnificent site. It was here that hundreds of people sought refuge during the 2004 tsunami that flattened most of the landscape of the city. The tsunami was so damaging, it demolished any structures, old and new, along the way of the tearing swell. This is a fact that gives significance to the Grand Mosque of Baiturrahman in the city of Banda Aceh. It is more than just a masterpiece of Islamic architecture in the nation, its survival from the tsunami is viewed by many residents as a direct intervention from the divine.
